When it comes time for your child to attend childcare or preschool, it can both be an exciting as well as a sensitive time for the entire family. For parents, the thought of leaving their child at child care can be nerve-racking, but for children, it can prove to be an anxious and scary time. It’s only natural for you to want the best for your children, which is why transition days are so crucial to your child’s daycare experience.

Childcare is not only a way for your children to be left in safe care while you are at work, but it is also designed to help your children to transition from life at home, to an environment that sees them interact with other adults and child as well as take part in structured and unstructured activities. At Burnside Advanced Early Learning Centre, we design our programs to help develop children’s communication, problem-solving and thinking skills in a safe and caring environment.

However, we understand that your child’s first experiences with childcare can be daunting. It is why we believe that a little preparation can go a long way to ensure that your child’s first day at preschool is a positive and rewarding experience for both you and your little one.

Keep on reading for practical tips on how to make childcare as comfortable for your child as possible:

Transition Day

Booking your child in for a transition day is an excellent way to get them ready for childcare before the main event. At Burnside Advanced Early Learning Centre, we advise all of our future students and their parents to partake in transition days. These days will help your child become more familiar with the centre, as well as the educators resulting in a more positive stay.

Our transition days are usually kept shorter than a regular childcare day to help ease your child into the new environment. We recommend completing between 2-3 transition days before your child starts full-time to help make the overall process as seamless as possible.

Other Helpful Tips For Your Child’s First Day at Childcare!

  • Make sure you only leave your child for a short time for the first few stays with us to help get settled with the environment.
  • Always remember to say goodbye. However, we recommend that you keep your goodbyes short as our educators will be able to settle your child much faster.
  • Allowing your little one to bring a comfort toy from home during the first few days will provide something to hold on to that is familiar.

How We Help in the Transition Process

Our educators will always work to comfort your child and distract them with a range of different activities and songs. If we notice that your child has developed a bond with one particular educator, we will make sure that your child gets to spend more time with that educator.

Our team takes the time to observe your child’s strengths and weaknesses. We have developed suitable activities to help your child feel more confident and comfortable and personally get involved in the learning process.
